Beginner Hebrew with Ayelet Adelman

Learn the basics of reading and understanding. This course will help learners follow along in the prayerbook, have a basic working vocabulary and begin to see the beauty of the Hebrew language.

Ayelet Adelman is a Hebrew teacher, a B’nei Mitzvah tutor, and a Jewish educator who spent much of her childhood and early adult life in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. She has taught all levels of Hebrew to different age groups at institutions such as the ABC Language School and Queens College, both located in New York City. In addition to her private students, she currently teaches at the Jewish Community of Greater Stowe (JCOGS) and lives in Plainfield, Vermont. Ayelet delights in Jewish culture, ritual and song and spends her time reflecting on ways that Jewish texts and values can bring about a more just and equitable world.

Conversational Hebrew with Karin Adelman

Karin is a semi-retired family doctor who gratefully moved with her husband Howie to Kingston over a decade ago. They and their children made aliyah and lived in Israel for eight years, returning to North America in 2005.  Karin loves the Hebrew language and is excited to share that love with others.

Join Karin to learn the fundamentals of how the language works, how Israelis converse, basic grammar and expressions. This will be a fun and interactive class!

Prayerbook Hebrew with Rabbi Karen Soria

Language shapes how we think - even what thoughts we are able to think. One of our Jewish gifts to the world is Hebrew and its particular language concepts. Join us for Prayer Book Hebrew to explore how the language, its vocabulary and construction, and our theological ideas come together (and diverge).

Rabbi Soria was ordained at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati in 1981. Between then and her retirement from Beth Israel Congregation in 2018, she served congregations in Melbourne, Australia; Sanibel Island and Winter Haven, Florida; Port Angeles, Washington State; Winnipeg, MB; Ottawa, ON; and of course, Kingston, ON. As well, she worked 11 1/2 years in the US Navy and 3 1/2 in the CAF as a chaplain. Rabbi Soria says, "Everyone I met and worked with and everyplace I have lived have helped shape my understanding of Judaism. I am so excited to be able to teach again due to the wonders of zoom!”
