SYNAGOGUE OF KINGSTON AND THE THOUSAND ISLANDS

Talmud Torah

Beth Israel Congregation runs an excellent educational system  for children aged three to 18, called Talmud Torah. It is governed by a Talmud Torah committee, with  Rabbi Elkin as the Principal.

The school's educational goal is to meet the unique learning styles of each child. Traditional, modern Orthodox mitzvot and Jewish traditions are taught, and we look for opportunities to share with the students our love for the land of Israel. The curriculum includes the study of Jewish ethics, Hebrew reading, synagogue and home prayers, Torah-Bible stories, and Sabbath and Festival traditions.

Talmud Torah is staffed by teachers with a strong Hebrew and Judaica background. They are hired based on their love of Judaism and enthusiasm to share this love with their students.

Students in nursery, junior kindergarten, and senior kindergarten meet on Sundays only. Students in grades one through seven meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons for a total of five hours a week. High school students meets once a week for 90 minutes.

Special events include four Friday night services a year, Purim carnival, Succah dinner, Tu-bishvat and Passover Seders, to name just a few.
