Talmud Torah
Questions regarding Talmud Torah can be directed to Cantor Michael Rumack, Religious Director and /or Carolyn B. Chair of Talmud Torah.
Beth Israel Congregation runs an excellent educational system for children aged three to 18, called Talmud Torah. It is governed by a Talmud Torah committee, with Cantor Rumack as the Principal and Hilary Tenehouse as acting Vice-Principal.
The school's educational goal is to meet the unique learning styles of each child. Traditional, modern Orthodox mitzvot and Jewish traditions are taught, and we look for opportunities to share with the students our love for the land of Israel. The curriculum includes the study of Jewish ethics, Hebrew reading, synagogue and home prayers, Torah-Bible stories, and Sabbath and Festival traditions.
Talmud Torah is staffed by teachers with a strong Hebrew and Judaica background. They are hired based on their love of Judaism and enthusiasm to share this love with their students.
Special events include four Friday night services a year, Purim carnival, Succah dinner, Tu-bishvat and Passover Seders, to name just a few.
